Lake Shore Electric Railway

Our mission . . .

Is to preserve the history of vintage streetcars and interurban cars in Northeast Ohio while translating the collection into a catalyst for economic development and tourism in Downtown Cleveland.

We . . .

  • Will be a major Cleveland tourist attraction with staying power, and inspire the economic development of Downtown Cleveland as heritage trolley lines have done in other cities.

  • Have an lease from the City of Cleveland on Dock 32 where 23 cars from the Trolleyville, USA, collection are being displayed, and a long-term lease from the City for land at the end of RTA's South Harbor Station on the Waterfront Line for our planned carbarn and restoration facility.

  • Are about to start a campaign to raise $5 million for construction of the carbarn to house the entire collection and provide for restoration and maintenance of the fleet.

  • Have begun the design phase for the carbarn, and we expect to begin construction in early 2007.

  • Will provide educational programs about the electric railway industry in Northeast Ohio, and a library of books, photographs, films, and other media to provide students, historians, educators, and the public with access to these for special projects.

Please join us in this great venture for Cleveland!
